Solar-Powered Community Deep Water Station Brings Safe Water to Coastal Satkhira

Solar-Powered Community Deep Water Station Brings Safe Water to Coastal Satkhira

Location: Kadakati Union, Ashashuni Upazila, Satkhira District, Bangladesh
Implemented by: Integrated Development Forum (IDF)
Project Focus: Safe Drinking Water, WASH, Renewable Energy and Climate Resilience

Bringing Relief Through Safe Water and Renewable Energy

Integrated Development Forum (IDF) has constructed a Solar-Powered Community Deep Water Station in Kadakati Union, Ashashuni Upazila, Satkhira District, Bangladesh, to address the long-standing water challenges faced by coastal communities.

Due to excessive salinity in local water sources, many families in the area have struggled to access safe drinking water and have had to travel long distances or purchase water to meet their daily needs. The new community water station provides access to safe drinking water, toilet facilities and a dedicated ablution area, helping improve community health, hygiene and dignity.

Located beside the Central Ahl-e-Hadith Madrasa, the facility also provides significant benefits to worshippers, particularly women attending Friday prayers, by offering convenient and hygienic ablution and toilet facilities.

Clean Energy for Sustainable Water Access

Recognising the unreliable electricity supply in remote rural areas, IDF has incorporated an environmentally friendly solar energy system to support the reliable operation of the water station. This renewable energy solution helps reduce dependence on grid electricity while promoting sustainable, climate-conscious community infrastructure.

Alongside infrastructure development, IDF has conducted community awareness activities on cleanliness, personal hygiene, environmental protection and climate change, encouraging healthier practices and greater environmental responsibility.

A Lasting Impact on Coastal Communities

The water station represents an important step towards reducing the daily hardships caused by water salinity and improving access to essential WASH services. However, communities across coastal Satkhira continue to face serious challenges due to saline water, climate vulnerability and limited access to reliable water infrastructure.

IDF therefore invites development partners, institutional donors and philanthropic organisations to collaborate in expanding solar-powered community water stations and other climate-resilient WASH initiatives in vulnerable coastal areas of Bangladesh.

Together, we can bring safe water closer to communities, protect public health and build a more resilient future.

Transforming Lives Through Sustainable Livelihoods: A Cow for a Family, A Future of Hope

Empowering Poor Families in Lalmonirhat, Northern Bangladesh

In the rural communities of Lalmonirhat District in northern Bangladesh, many poor families struggle daily to meet their basic needs. For these families, a sustainable source of income can mean the difference between living in poverty and building a hopeful, self-reliant future.

The Integrated Development Forum (IDF) is working to change this reality through its Sustainable Livelihood Project, designed to empower vulnerable families to become economically self-reliant.

A Small Beginning, A Life-Changing Impact

As a pilot initiative, IDF distributed heifer calves to 30 vulnerable families, providing them with an opportunity to develop sustainable livelihoods through livestock rearing.

The initiative is already showing promising results. Several cows have become pregnant, and some families are now raising newborn calves. Families are generating income by selling milk, while cow dung is being converted into organic manure for agricultural use and sale.

Beyond income generation, the project is improving household food security. Children in participating families are receiving fresh milk, helping them improve their nutritional intake. At the same time, organic manure supports more sustainable agricultural practices and creates an additional source of income.

This initiative demonstrates how a carefully supported livelihood opportunity can generate multiple benefits: income, nutrition, agricultural sustainability and greater family resilience.

Your Support Can Create Lasting Change

IDF aims to expand this promising initiative to reach more poor and vulnerable families. With the generous support of donors, development partners and compassionate individuals, more families can gain access to productive assets, strengthen their livelihoods and build a more secure future for their children.

Your donation is more than a gift. It is an investment in dignity, self-reliance and a future free from the cycle of poverty.

Together, we can help families move from dependency to self-reliance—one family, one cow and one hopeful future at a time.

Support IDF’s Sustainable Livelihood Project in Bangladesh. Help a family stand on its own feet.
